BOYS WILL BE BOYS: STRAINED RELATIONSHIPS

This installation is a meditation on humankind's strained relationship with the natural world. It is a collection of sculptural objects that comprise a landscape made in man's image: a grove of suit "trees" that mock viewers with soft, feminine laughter that emanates from under the jackets, a reflecting pond of patent leather from which emerge a pair of shoes, a useless mountain of old business shoes, and a briefcase containing dried, cracked mud. Hands and non-verbal communication play an important role in this installation. In front of the entrance to the piece is a sculpture entitled, "Rock, Paper, Scissors." It is a wall sculpture with three black and white TVs that show different hands playing the traditional children's game, "Rochambeau." Inside the room on the far wall, is a video projection of two hands shaking, an (ironic) symbol of trust.
