NATURE REMAINS
Each letter in Nature Remains is an open-ended container holding one half cubic yard of material. The letters were filled with recyclable materials, such as glass, newspaper, tin and aluminum. Together, they held seven cubic yards--or one days worth of any given neighborhood's recycling. The phrase, "Nature Remains", comes from the last line in the quote below by Walt Whitman. This piece was originally sited high on a hill, of the last undeveloped publicly-owned lots in suburban Dublin. In Dublin, it defied the encroaching track development; here, it announces the remains of nature--our recyclable by-products.
"After you have exhausted what there is in business, politics, conviviality, and so on--and have found that none of these finally satisfy or permanently wear--what remains? Nature remains."
